With the rapid development of the Internet and mobile Internet, new services are emerging every day. BRAS device, as the access point of internet services, faces big challenges to meet the need for rapidly adding many new services. Traditional BRAS equipment has the following limitations in meeting this need because of its tightly coupled software and hardware implementation.
· The coupling of BRAS software and hardware impedes their independent
development and evolution resulting in longer development cycle
· Proprietary solution will results in vendor lock in
· The upgrade cycle to meet new requirements is usually very long
· There are usually long down time for functional upgrade or capacity
expansion leading to long service interruption
· Hard to scale the numbers of BRAS devices to match the changes in
access capacity demand
CertusNet FlexBNG is a new generation of BRAS system developed to solve the issues network operators face today on their legacy edge devices of their core networks. Based on a fully virtualized NFV architecture, FlexBNG has a set of smarter, more flexible, and more economical BRAS features to support the development and deployment of a wide range of telecommunication and Internet services.
FlexBNG is deployed on the network edge at the very same location as a traditional BRAS which controls the access to internetwork and performs management functions such as address assignment, authentication, authorization and accounting (AAA), security, policy management,Quality of Service(QoS), etc.
Highlights of FlexBNG
· Flexible customization
Flexibility to customize product templates and instances, and orchestrate
product features (NFVO+VNFM).
· Easy deployment
Running on standardized x86 platforms and switches; expansion made
easy by virtualization.
· Cost saving
A variety of function modules available with one-time investments in
generic hardware (x86 server); minimal adaptation to allow new
DPI-based traffic segmentation enables security from L4 to L7.
· Multi-level QoS
Upgrade CPU + RAM to flexibly expand HQoS * Y queues at level X.
· High Reliability
Support Stateful Switchover (SSO), eliminating the need for traditional dual
backup with N:M VM backup.
· New Services
OTT quality assurance, access control, bandwidth on demand, service
40Gbps user traffic flow, 2U height, 650w rated power consumption.
· Centralized Deployment
Centralized deployment in data center can fully benefit from the pooled
· Scale in/out
Implement scale in/out according to the load of VMs and/or FlexBNGs.
· Visualization of OAM
Take full advantage of the MANO system to reduce the difficulty of network
OAM and make network OAM Visualization.
FlexBNG is deployed on the network edge at the very same location as a traditional
BRAS. It aggregates traffic from a physical network interface of vBRAS’ virtual NE device and performs management functions such as address assignment, authentication, authorization and accounting (AAA), security, policy management, Quality of Service(QoS), and etc.
The capability of a vBRAS system relies on powerful x86 servers and high performance software processing. The system capacity can be adjusted elastically on NFV cloud platform. The system architecture is shown below.
· Home broadband access network
· IPTV/OTT carrier network
· Campus access network
· Large client private line access network
· Government and enterprises access network
